5 Spring 2016 Fashion Trends that You Can Bike In

Wondering which of the Spring 2016 fashion trends are best for biking in? Look no further. We did the research for you, and found great pieces to help you celebrate the new season of bike riding in style.

1. Put a Belt On It

Belts, especially the tied and sash style, are a big trend this spring. You can fashion your own out of a piece of cloth or a scarf, or purchase a garment with an integrated belt as shown below.

We deem the belt trend to be bike friendly because it doesn't restrict your movement while cycling. If you'd like to keep your clothes loose fitting and easy and breezy while bicycling, stash the belt in your Po Campo bike bag while riding, and then add it to your outfit once you reach your destination.

We picked out some belted pieces that would be good for biking in. We are especially excited about this pencil skirt from Zara; pencil skirts are usually a no-no because they restrict your leg movement too much, but this one is a keeper because of the longer slit up the front.

2. Give 'em a Cold Shoulder

A cold shoulder top is as if a tank top and off-the-shoulder top had a baby. We like this spring fashion trend for biking because exposing the shoulder can give a top a little more range of movement in the sleeve, as well as providing some built-in air conditioning.

Lots of casual options here to chose from that can be easily worn with slacks or with a skirt. For those spring days that still get cool at night, don't forget to pack a lightweight jacket in your Po Campo bag!

3. Pretty Pleats Please

An evolution of the carwash skirts trend that we saw last fall, pleated skirts are back in a big way this spring. Pleated skirts are great for biking in because they don't restrict your leg movement and are generally made of lightweight fabrics that won't weight you down.

While it's hard to go wrong with a pleated skirt, the best length is midi, so that the skirt falls to your calves. A full length skirt has the danger of getting swept up into your wheel, while too short of a skirt can catch a breeze and expose more of your legs than you want to.

4. Shimmers and Sparkles

The Spring 2016 Fashion runways were full of sequins and sparkles and just shimmery fabric in general. We normally think of these sparkly outfits as strictly New Years Eve attire, so it's fun to see them show up in a different season and in casual wear.

We included these sparkles in our Spring 2016 Fashion trends guide for biking because, well, they are so eye-catching! Being noticed while biking on the street is key for bike safety, so why not add something sparkly to your wardrobe?

Of course, it can be a little tricky to figure out how to wear sequins without looking like you're going to a cocktail party. Try adding some sparkles as an accessory or in your shoes, like with these Keds, or in a jacket. Shimmer works as well as sparkle to nail this trend, which is easier to wear in the day-to-day.

5. And...That's a Wrap

Our last Spring 2016 Fashion Trend that you can bike in is the wrap skirt. This style provides great movement in the legs making it easy to pedal. Or, if you prefer to bike in shorts or yoga pants, just throw the wrap skirt on top when you get off your bike. This style is all about flexibility!

We're not the first ones to recognize that a wrap skirt is great for biking in. Forest and Fin launched a bike-friendly wrap skirt on Kickstarter last year. It comes equipped with hidden fasteners underneath the bottom hem to prevent fly-up while riding, pockets to secure valuables, and removable straps to keep the skirt out of the tires. Pretty brilliant!
